Hey guys! Sorry for the slow posting here lately, it’s been quite hectic in the shop and when that happens I tend to forget about posting up the results. Now that the convention season is over I will get back into my usual groove, I promise!
Today’s projects is the Rueful Axe from Skyrim, but with a few changes made mainly to the handle. The friend who requested this piece will be using it on the wall of his Viking-style “Great Hall”. We decided to make the handle longer to better balance the weight of that massive axe head and it also made the overall piece more substantial for displaying.
The blade was originally sculpted in clay by my pal Robert Righter. It was then moulded and cast with resin before the paint was applied. The handled is a combination of real wood and epoxy clay that was used to make the collar pieces as well as the ringed cap at the bottom.
Thanks for checking it out and please check back soon for more cool stuff. If you have a chance, also check out and subscribe to my Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/johnsonarms) where I’ll be posting up videos of the finished projects as well as more tutorials and advice for those also interested in making props! Thank you!
So I have been testing paint on foam for some big projects later this year. As a result, I think I have found a good formula to make the these foam weapons “realistic” and pretty durable. Some extended testing will be done, but I feel confident that if you need a cool prop for your convention persona, these should work great.
Email me if you have any interest in placing an order, thanks!
I usually don’t get too fanboy when it comes to the props I paint, but that went out the window with this sword. It’s so damn red and shiny, lol. I tried to balance out the realistic/cartoon-y look and I think this was a good balance for the first try. Many thanks to my talented Dad for his time spent building this three foot beast
I hope you AT fans will enjoy seeing the photos (yes, I’ll get a proper photo before it leaves!) and maybe we’ll try another one if you have some suggestions on what the next one should be
I was able to get some color on the Demon Blood Sword tonight. Please do not look directly at the sword, its pretty damn bright now Thanks for checking out the progress, this will definitely be done by Thursday
I worked on a few projects with Dad this weekend, both being ones that I can’t wait to see finished. I’ll add a few photos of the progress and expect more progress soon! (They have to be done for Halloween!)
